IMPLANT DENTISTRY
AIN’T THAT THE TOOTH!
There are many ways that one can lose a tooth. There are accidental injuries that knock a tooth out. There are health situations that cause a tooth to be extracted. There are sometimes when one is not born with a permanent tooth. For any of these reasons, dental implants can be a great solution to replace the missing tooth or teeth. Another option to replace a missing tooth or teeth is a fixed dental bridge. The differences between the fixed dental bridge and the dental implant are that a fixed dental bridge requires one or more teeth adjacent to the missing tooth or teeth to have some modifications performed before the fixed dental bridge is placed. The fixed dental bridge then connects the teeth on either side of the space together. The dental implant on the other hand is a single tooth to replace a single tooth with no changes to the teeth on either side of the space. The dental implant can take more time to complete than a fixed dental bridge. And the dental implant requires more than one surgical procedures to place (most often performed with sedation). The dental implant oftentimes takes anywhere from 4 months to one year from start to finish. A fixed dental bridge can be completed usually in two weeks or less. Both the fixed dental bridge and the dental implant are long-lasting restorations and end up looking similar in the mouth if done properly. Oral health care for both of them is similar and necessary for the long-term outcome. A fixed dental bridge may require a slightly different dental flossing process to clean under the artificial tooth where the gap was.
Should you find yourself in the need of replacing a missing tooth or teeth, please contact Cosmetic Dentistry of Murfreesboro to have a consultation to see if you are a candidate for dental implants or if a fixed dental bridge might be a better option. While we do not currently perform the surgical aspect of the dental implants, we do perform the restorations that go on top of the dental implant that is what actually replaces the missing tooth or teeth in your mouth. We have several very skilled oral surgeons that we refer to for the surgical procedures.
THIS IS US
As a full-service family dental office and dental design studio, Cosmetic Dentistry of Murfreesboro also offers the following cosmetic services:
Teeth Whitening (aka Bleaching)
Crowns
Bonding
Clear Aligner Therapy (aka Invisalign)
Fixed Dental Bridges
Dr. Nicholson applies the same expertise and artistry when additional repairs are needed in the best interest of the patient’s health, like:
Tooth-colored fillings: Sometimes referred to as “composite” or “white” fillings, these are safe and durable when a cavity needs to be filled.
Clear Aligner Therapy also known by the trade name “Invisalign.” This is where clear removable trays are used to straighten your teeth without ugly wire braces.
Root Canals: Sometimes referred to as “endodontics,” root canals can save a tooth even when its soft interior (called the “pulp chamber”) becomes infected. Once we clean out what’s bothering your tooth, it will continue to function without the pain and sensitivity you were likely experiencing before the procedure.
Emergency care: Yes, call us. Yes, we will see you. Priority is given to regularly scheduled patients.
